NAME: France | Francis Bonnefoy
CANON: Axis Powers Hetalia
CANON POINT: Modern day
AGE: Canon has him appearing 26. I say Hima has never seen a 26 year old. (30s though? Yes)
BACKGROUND: Wiki
PERSONALITY:
The Okay-Ish ⤵
France is happiest when he's surrounded by people which means he's quite the social butterfly. There are some nations that are seen as being a bit socially isolated in canon, even toward their immediate neighbors. Our resident Frenchman is the opposite of that; he doesn't seem to know a stranger. Doesn't seem to matter if it's nation or human. He's depicted as being a very eccentric, brotherly figure which is reflected in his warm, somewhat flamboyant nature.
France is quite opinionated and open to discussing said opinions with anyone that will listen. He's observant of details that get overlooked by others at times, such as Canada's identity being separate from America. Many nations see Canada and America, who are twins, as interchangeable with Canada getting blamed for his brother's mishaps in the global sphere. While England and France had a hand in raising both of the then colonies, France seems to be the only one regularly correcting others about mistaking poor Canada for his brother. He continues on with showing an appreciation of his former ward's cinema. In general, his parenting skills seem to be fairly solid, with England going to him for advice in the comics.
When he's not taking on odd jobs to charm tourists and stimulate his economy, he's being an odd little duck enjoying art galleries, coffee shops, and staring at his reflection in the Seine. This man was a hipster before hipsters were a thing. France exudes an easy confidence that makes him rather charming and magnetic. He stands for what he believes in. Sometimes he does so in an embarrassing manner full of the most lavish purple prose ever. That's part of his charm. He is a storyteller.
Ex 3: France is seen as being patient when explaining exactly what he and his kind are when an inquisitive soldier runs into him while in Paris: Apparently he's a boat.
Ex 4: Lisa was a tourist that France saw and knew was the reincarnation of Jeanne d'Arc. He then made himself her own personal tour guide and historian and threw in a bit of talk on second chances. Brotherly handholding ensues and the fandom sheds gross tears.
The takeaway from these examples is that he doesn't shy away from explaining complex, sometimes philosophical subjects (immortality and loss). He's a rather sentimental man.
Now, no personality section on France would avoid touching on France's rather amorous side. He is, after all, the nation of love. It's what he does. Does he fall in love like it's going out of style? Probably not. The higher probability is that he falls in lust twenty times a day though. He's earned quite the reputation as being a bold, seductive type. He isn't much for machismo behavior, though he does love a nicely muscled man. He is very, very forward with his interest when he's got eyes for someone but will back off if they're not interest. Good on him for respecting the ladies and the gentlemen.
The Bad & Ugly ⤵
Unless you've known him for a while, France seems to be the lovechild of a Gucci campaign and a Disney prince. He's pretty. He's mysterious.
He's a petty, stubborn, manipulative piece of crap
Being a nation is complicated. France is the product of a long, winding history full of war and conquest. Royal families. Upheaveal of said royalty, so on and so forth. While nations do respect his rich culture -- from his art, cuisine, and language -- it's because a long, long time ago his kings got a little freaky and decided to force that culture on surrounding nations. Language? Philosophies? Fashion? Make it French. He was the peddler of ballet. Allow him to show you why Gothic architecture is truly worthy of a chef's kiss.
Due to this rather influential background, relationships with other nations are a bit strained. He also has a bit of a superiority complex with a smattering of self-loathing, just to keep things interesting. Modern-day France seems like a pretty nice guy, sitting on a bench, making bank off of his tourism and delicious wine. That doesn't stop the friction.
Ex 5: France vs England: These two nations have a deeply intertwined history with one another. They used to be incredibly vicious toward on another, going to war on a whim throughout the centuries. It seems with the Entente their relationship has smoothed over in some regard, though they do bicker (to bicker, out of deeply ingrained habit -- and if you believe Paint It White is even close to canon -- sexual frustration. Yikes).
France can be a deeply supportive individual on his good days and argue you under the table the very next moment. It could be speculated that France's influence on Canada showed itself in more ways than just the wavy hair. After all, the kid picked apart all of America's flaws for an entire three hours before England caught him and told him that enough was enough. France's ability to complain makes him appear quite snobbish -- which he is. He believes that his language is the most beautiful. His food is uncomparable, and his hair? You wished you could have that hair. His character notes say that he is too proud and stubborn to remember English but I'd like to interpret it as him being too stubborn to speak it when he cannot be bothered to care. Awful.
POWERS/ABILITIES:
To save space, I'm going to link these.
INVENTORY:
1. The “Little Black Book”: During his previous stay in Lunatia he might have kept a book of conquests and pursuits. Birthdays. Habits. Favorite foods. Somehow this cursed bit of secretary work has found its way back with France.
2. Pierre. I refuse to separate the poor man from his fat bird.
3. A rather personal letter to someone. Once he figures out it's around he'll hide it for sure.
4. Paris Snuggie is returning this round as well. Just let him have some creature comforts.
5. ...ankle porn. IT'S CLASSIC VICTORIAN and not his. (it is)
MOONBLESSING: Cordis.

Powers & Abilities [ I borked. ]
Date: 2020-03-19 03:18 pm (UTC)Or rather, perceived immortality. A nation's vitality is heavily influenced by several things: its citizens, government, and economy. Nations that have issues with their economies are seen to have sickly moments, as an example. The big thing is their people; if they're allegiant to their homeland said homeland pushes on. France seems to be doing quite well for being as old as he is.
Healing:
Superficial wounds are not long-lasting for nations. Get bruised falling off a ladder? No big deal. Break a leg while falling off said ladder? There are worse things. They bruise, break, and heal relatively quickly. Wounds that would normally put out a human are certainly inconvenient, but not the end. Or The End. Russia is seen to be able to remove his heart. Kinda..vital, but Hetalia magic! Lasting wounds seem to be tied to historical happenings: war, famine, government scuffles--that whole lot.
Weaponry:
He's a pretty good shot. Nations used to play a more vital role in combat, and given how much of his earlier life was spent in combat he only looks like a damsel in distress. He's a bit out of practice in modern-day but fencing is very much a Thing in France.
Cooking:
You heard me right. I'm counting this as a power and you cannot stop me. Forget milkshakes; everything brings the boys (and girls) to the yard. It's not like he isn't charming on his own, but even the oldest enemies enjoy French cooking.
