Love can be many things but I think your friend focusing on an unknown end --inevitable of course, but largely unknown!-- is keeping him from experiencing a beginning.

Speaking hypothetically, if your friend had the same circumstances as us nations, wouldn't it be nice to explore certain things that you cannot have back home? Without having to report back to bosses...
